Web 2.0 Tool: Flipgrid

Introduction: Web 2.0...what does that mean?  To me that means an application, not website, that utilizes technology as a tool to help users.  I was recently given the assignment to learn more about a tool that I did not know much about.  After reviewing tools like Seesaw, Explain Everything, and Padlet, I remembered a tool that really excited my educational spirit.  I discovered flipgrid in the summer of 2018 when I took a graduate class that highlighted Secondary Education Strategies for a more inclusive classroom environment.  It intrigued me because I thought it was a great way for a teacher to hear from EVERY student.  My professor used it as an exit ticket.  He asked us to describe a learning strategy that we could see ourselves using in the future.  It really made me think about what we had discussed in class and what I had read.  Flipgrid is a tool that I could see myself using in my future classroom and this post highlights what I have learned about the tool.

  • Rebecca Whittet has created a website dedicated to how to use Flipgrid.  I utilized her website to help me understand that application better.  I have included images from her website that helped me better understand the application, but there are a few more terms that she highlights in her website as well.  She also includes different student-centered uses for the application.  https://it648whittet.weebly.com/
  • I found another blog post on Flipgrid from a blogger called "The Technie Teacher."  Her blog post was highlighting another blogger that reported his findings on flipgrid.  I found this blog post and Rebecca Whittet's website to be aligned.  This was a great tool for lesson plans and classroom uses too!  https://www.thetechieteacher.net/2018/07/flipgrid-social-learning-platform.html
  • The flipgrid website is also a useful tool.  Keep in mind that it is biased because it is trying to sell the product :) https://flipgrid.com/

  1. Mary Kate,

Great post. I remember this tool in class as well. I was nervous at first because we had to be videotaped but it was fun and it was different from using the typical pen and paper. I think that students would appreciate the change. Although it cost money, the classroom edition seems like it would be a great asset to any classroom.
